Vijay Tendulkar‘s drama revolves around caste politics, power, sex and death. Brahmins gather at Gulabee Bai’s brothel, Bamungachhi, where King Nana Fadanabis is present. Ghasiram Sabaldas, a servant, cures Nana who gifts him a diamond necklace. The necklace is stolen, and Ghasiram, accused of theft, seeks revenge by using his daughter Gauri to please Nana. Nana appoints Ghasiram as the chief police officer, but Ghasiram becomes a tyrant torturing Bahmins. Nana feeling threatened, orchestrates Ghasiram’s death after Ghasiram’s actions, including the death of Brahmins, emerge the community. The play concludes with Ghasiram’s brutal murder and the city’s celebratory response.
