Film star Jyotirmoy Mukherjee, recovering from a heart attack, visits rural Purulia seeking meaningful content. Guided by social worker Neelima, he witnesses the exploitation by landlord Gobindo Sarkar and the plight of villagers. Touched by their lives and dying traditions, Jyotirmoy tries to stop a riot incited by Gobindo, suffering another heart attack. Back in Kolkata, he realizes he has undergone a deep inner transformation—a true Janmantar (rebirth).
