“Romeo and Juliet” tells the story of the feuding Montague and Capulet families. Romeo and Juliet fall in love but secretly marry due to their family’s conflict. When Romeo is banished for killing Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, she seeks help to avoid marrying Paris. A potion makes her appear dead, but Romeo doesn’t receive the message and believes she is truly dead. Juliet awakens to find Romeo dead and kills herself. The story is retold in Jan Otcenasek’s “Romeo and Juliet and Darkness,” set in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia in 1942.
