The play Shasti portrays the struggles of poor peasants Dukhiram, Chidam, and their wives. Exploited labor, poverty, and constant quarrels shape their harsh lives. Yet, moments of love and longing remain. One day, in rage, Dukhiram kills his wife, and Chidam falsely accuses his own wife Chandara to save his brother. Chandara is sentenced to death, and the play ends in unresolved tension.
