The story “Subha” follows Subhashini, a mute girl affectionately called Subha. Though voiceless, she finds solace in nature and animals, which understand her better than people. Her parents worry about her marriage. Pratap wishes to marry her despite knowing her condition, but his proud father rejects it. Ultimately, she is married off to someone unaware of her muteness. The tale ends tragically, exposing social pressures, lack of empathy, and harsh expectations placed on women.
