The play portrays Bengali parents’ unending dream of making their children doctors or engineers, ignoring their true talents. Sukumar, a poor clerk, and his wife Maya pressure their son Joy to fulfil this inherited dream. But Joy longs for nature, poetry, and deeper questions about inequality. His parents fear his unconventional vision, even tearing away images that inspire him. Yet Joy’s dreams of freedom, beauty, and justice cannot be erased.
